IT’S TIME FOR A DIFFERENT CHRISTMAS PRESENT
I’m so looking forward to Christmas Day, aren’t you? I will officially not be working (breathes a sigh of relief) and instead will be enjoying a relaxing time at home with my family. It’s such a special time of year when the four of us – me, my husband and two children – can spend time together enjoying each other’s company.
Our day will start, as always, with presents followed by a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Then we’ll have a walk in Epping Forest and be back home around 3pm to start cooking. What I love about the day is that it’s so slow-paced and relaxed. There’s a feeling of stillness and peace as we hang out together, preparing the meal and chatting and laughing. And it’s wonderful that my children, now 16 and 11, like being around. As a family, the day is very much about being present and together.
Around Christmas I think there’s often a feeling of nostalgia – of harking back to more simple times when families sat around the table for their turkey lunch then cosied up on the sofa to watch TV or played silly board games. And I think that’s why giving Tidy Books as a gift is so popular at this time of year. People want something that feels traditional and is going to last – not just another trendy gadget that will be thrown away when the next one comes along.
In fact, I’ve found that at this time of year many of our customers are buying our designs for their new-borns. Our Tidy Books Bookcase and Tidy Books Box are perfect as gifts at the start of your child’s journey. Babies are drawn to books and by the age of eight months, yours will happily be sitting by their bookcase, pointing to the colourful array of books laid out there. And as your child grows, you can enjoy watching them interact with the bookcase, picking out a bed-time story, like ‘The Gruffalo’, or ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar,’ or even using it to line up their favourite teddies.
Our children’s bookcases and storage boxes also seem to be a big hit with new grandparents who are looking for a Christmas present that doesn’t require batteries and a manual! They want a meaningful gift for their grandchildren, and one that they can be part of as they watch them grow from babies to toddlers to beyond (my 11-year-old son still has his Tidy Books bookcase).
